Types of Visas for Japan

Tourist Visa for Japan

Explore Japan with a tourist visa, ideal for short stays of up to 90 days, perfect for vacations, visits, or short business trips. In some countries, such as Mexico, the short-term stay can be extended up to a total of 180 days.

In most countries, it is not necessary to obtain such a visa; simply crossing the border of Japan with a round-trip ticket is sufficient.

Work Visa for Japan

This visa requires a full-time employment contract from a company with its registered office in Japan, covering different job categories. It is crucial to note that once you obtain this visa, you will not be allowed to work in a professional category different from the one specified in the visa.

Student Visa for Japan

Obtaining a student visa is the best option for living and working in Japan. It is a visa with a minimum duration of six months and a maximum of two years, during which you cannot work more than 28 hours per week. To apply for it, you must enroll in a Japanese language school located in the city where you wish to study or, if you choose the university route, in a university course in that location. One of these institutions will be your sponsor, and you must attend the enrolled courses compulsorily. As a prerequisite, you must meet two requirements: an academic one and an economic one.

The academic requirement is to have completed at least 10 years of schooling. However, most schools will require at least 12 years completed; that is, either high school or two years of non-university higher education.

The economic requirement often varies, but broadly speaking, it involves either demonstrating a bank balance equivalent to at least $12,000 USD in your local currency or having a family guarantee that can demonstrate monthly income starting from $1,200 USD, in addition to having a bank balance not lower than $12,000 USD.

The cost of six months of Japanese language school is usually around 450,000 yen, and for a full year, it’s around 820,000 yen. Typically, the first enrollment fee is paid in two to three installments.

To apply for the student visa, contact us six months before the start of the academic year you wish to attend, as these are the enrollment deadlines for Japanese academic institutions. Working Holiday Visa

This visa is available in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Korea, Slovakia, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom.

The duration is a maximum of one year, non-renewable, and you will be eligible if you are under 31 years old at the time of application and have at least the equivalent in your local currency of $3,000 (USD) and a flying ticket to Japan. With it, you will not have working hour restrictions and can travel throughout Japan. However, you cannot leave the country more than once and must leave Japan once your stay is over.

Despite what many people think, once your visa expires, you are not obligated to return to your home country; you are simply required to leave Japan. This means you can go to Korea, for example, and then re-enter Japan as a tourist a couple of days later.
